The Inquiry has published a short report by the virology and transfusion experts in the hepatitis expert group.
In its letter of instruction the Inquiry asked for information on the following viruses:
- other hepatitis viruses: hepatitis A, hepatitis D, hepatitis E
- other retroviruses: human t-lymphotropic virus (HTLV)
- other viruses: cytomegalovirus (CMV), human papillomavirus (HPV), parvovirus.
In addition the report provides the experts’ view as to whether it is possible for hepatitis C to reactivate in a person who has achieved a sustained virological response if they are exposed to illness or treatment that suppresses their immune system.
